报告内容:

The demand of efficient multi-scale methods emerged in the last decade as the new materials and novel manufacture approaches are extensively adopted. The numerical challenges and emergent needs from industries are discussed firstly. A two-scale model is proposed to model the complex failure modes in large scale structure which couples the global computation and local simulation concurrently. As an application case, the joints play crucial roles in whole cars or airplane crashworthiness simulation. The proposed method uses fine mesh and 3D solid theory to capture the real failure modes of different type of joints, then maps the local results with high level calculation which is associated with coarse mesh and shell theory usually. The numerical cases illustrate that the proposed two-scale approach is an efficient and appropriate way to model the large scale structure failure process.

报告人简介:

Dr. Ren received his PhD degree in System Analysis and Integration from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2003 and was an Associate Professor at same school between 2005~2008.  During 2009~2014, Dr. Ren was working in University of California at Berkeley as project scientist. In 2014, Dr. Ren joined LSTC and became a Senior Scientist leading a composite analysis team. The LS-DYNA code is one of the most widely used commercial software in the automotive, aerospace and defense industries to analyze vehicle, aircraft and weapon system designs.

Dr. Ren published over thirty peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and is a leading scholar in multi-scale mechanics and peridynamics research. Currently, Dr. Ren has an active research program to bring the concept of advanced CAE and virtual material/mechanical testing to modern vehicle design and manufacturing through multiscale computation. He and his colleagues has been working closely with major aerospace and automotive companies including Boeing, Ford, GM, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc for solving challenging multi-scale problems involving in design, manufacturing, assembly and crashworthiness.
